More than 92,000 targeted for Polio immunisation in Karbi Anglong

DIPHU — The Additional Chief Medical and Health Officer (ACM&HO), Family Welfare, Diphu, has announced the dates for the pulse polio immunisation programme for Karbi Anglong district.

Dr. Rupsing Hanse, District Immunisation Officer (DIO), District Family Welfare Board, said in a press conference held at ACM&HO office at Rongkhelan on Saturday that, in line with the nationwide programme, the pulse polio immunisation will be conducted in the district on December 10 to administer two drops of the polio vaccine to children aged 0 to 5 years.

The polio immunisation will be conducted at every polio booth centre across the district. This time, the target for children under 5 years old is 92,493. In the Howraghat area, there are 37,536 children; in the Manja area, there are 15,941 children; in the Bokajan area, there are 22,534 children; in the Chowkihola area, there are 8,765 children; and in Diphu urban, there are 7,717 children.

The DIO mentioned that ASHA and health workers will be involved in the immunisation programme. There will be six mobile teams deployed.

Dr. Hanse further mentioned that on December 11 and 12, ASHA and health workers will conduct house-to-house visits to identify children who may have been missed in the immunisation programme and will administer polio drops to them.

The DIO has made a strong appeal to parents with children aged 0 to 5 years to bring their children to the polio booth for polio drops so that their children are not infected with the disease.
