More than 7700 bottles of alcohol seized in Dimapur

Dimapur, March 2 (EMN): A whopping 7765 bottles of alcohol were seized in and around Nagaland’s commercial hub Dimapur during the crackdown on sale of alcohol carried out by the Excise department in the last few days.

The office of the commissioner of Excise department, Nagaland, informed through a press release on Monday that the department seized 4759 bottles of assorted IMFL and 2166 litre of country liquor during its prohibition drive in and around Dimapur town as well as the check gate from February 25 to March 1.

‘In this connection, 48 accused were penalised under the relevant section of the NLTP Act 1989. The department will continue to put its effort to thwart any illegal operations/ business in liquor by anti-social elements despite its scarce field strength,’ the press release stated.

In another press release, the superintendent of Excise and Prohibition, Dimapur has informed that the Dimapur district Excise the Chümoukedima recovered 840 bottles of assorted IMLF from a vehicle after it was intercepted on March 1 morning. In this connection, one Sachu was arrested and booked under the relevant section of the NLTP Act 1989.

It went on to stated that the district Excise team comprising head constable Kiyelu and constables Tsuknung, Akahoto, Khekavi, Thejong, Khalenthong, Tsathongli and Kiyerangzaile was led by Allen Jami A.I.E (I/c).
