Kohima, May 6 (EMN): Two days after inter-district movement for distressed and stranded persons was permitted by the state government, thousands of applications were received at the facilitation cell at the local ground in Kohima.
Till Wednesday, about 6640 stranded students and daily wage earners staying in Kohima have submitted their names to go to their respective districts, said Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, the additional deputy commissioner of Kohima.
“In the first phase, we are planning to send them (people in distress) to Tuensang and Mon district, starting Thursday,’ she informed. The buses will leave in the morning from the local ground.
From Mon district alone, nearly 1500 applicants have been received, which would require a minimum of 40 buses to transport them. Meanwhile, around 700 people have applied to go to Tuensang district, she added.
Till Wednesday, 51 buses had reported to the local ground and a few more buses are expected to turn up, the official informed.
Rutsa also said that at least 100 buses would be required to transport the stranded persons to their respective homes.
These public transportations were obtained from Nagaland State Transport, Civil Secretariat, and various departments, Rutsa added.
About 300 car passes (one-way permit) were also issued to private vehicles travelling from Kohima to other districts, she informed.
She also said that over 3000 applications of persons from other states stranded in Nagaland were collected, and forwarded to the state government as per instruction.
Out of 3108 applicants, majority are from Bihar consisting of about 1300 (most of whom were daily wage earners), while about 800 stranded persons were from Assam. Other applicants include people from Manipur, Mizoram etc.
“For public transportation of these stranded persons, state government will take the call,” she said.
The official also said that they are allowing movement of persons from Assam and Manipur stranded persons in Kohima. Car passes have been issued to those with private vehicles after necessary screening process, she informed.
