Mokokchung, Aug. 10 (EMN): The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), during the two-day surprise checking on infiltration of illegal immigrants at two check gates viz. Tsutapela at Tzurang valley and Watiyongpang Nagaland at Tuli, detected more than 120 ILP defaulters. Few of them were deported immediately for not possessing legitimate documents.
This was informed at a press conference at AKM president chamber here on Aug. 10. He said the checking was carried out as a response to the clarion call made by the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF).
The AKM felt that the exercise was necessary because Mokokchung is the gateway for some districts, especially Longleng, Zunheboto, and Tuensang.
After consultation with the district administration, around 70 AKM volunteers were dispatched.
Alongside the checking, the AKM also conducted awareness campaign and verification drive of ILP, aadhaar card, voter ID and NRC documents. During the campaign, it was found many loopholes in the verification process conducted at the gates.
The AKM said without proper verification documents from district administration, people are allowed to enter the state which causes an influx of illegal immigrants in the state.
“Some company letter requesting to allow manual labours to enter the state in the border area become the legitimate documents instead of ILP documents issued by district administration,” the AKM said.
“In Tuli alone around 1000 labour entered the state every-day without proper permission or documents, taking advantage of such company letter illegal immigrants infiltrate the state,” the union informed.
The AKM maintained that policies like mini hornbill festival to be celebrated coinciding with premier tribal festival is good initiative of the present government to preserve and promote custom and tradition of the Naga tribes. However, it opined that how Naga can preserve and protect those custom and tradition if the government does not protect its borders from the influx infestation illegal immigrants.
In this connection, AKM appealed the state government to set-up separate ILP branches/ section in all check-gates for proper verification of documents.
The AKM urged the state government to device a rigid mechanism for ILP to the tackle infestation of illegal immigrants in the state which would become the greatest for the people of Nagaland.
The student leaders said that’ Survival Mokokchung’ initiated 2007 to flash out illegal immigrants from the district is currently confined to Mokokchung but felt the district cannot be secured unless its neighbouring districts and brethren tribes are safe.
In this regard, they conveyed that AKM is concerned and is willing to extend outraged policies to help other tribes to tackle the influx of illegal immigrant to at least safe Nagaland.
