Kohima, June 1 (EMN): More than 1000 citizens of Nagaland stranded in Karnataka are expected to set off for home through a special train from Bengaluru, on Tuesday, June 2.

Speaking to Eastern Mirror, the Naga Task Force Bengaluru (NTFB) for Covid-19 informed that they have listed 1612 returnees from Karnataka, who will be undergoing screening test at the Tennis Pavilion, Palace Road in Vasanth Nagar in Bengaluru at 10 am on Tuesday before boarding the train later.

Zakietuo Noudi, member of NTFB, said that they have made the name list of the passengers going home public, and have asked those not in the list not to turn up.

It may be mentioned that many, who came to Bengaluru from different parts of Karnataka, were rendered homeless following the deferment of the special train last week.

NTFB has acknowledged the government of Nagaland for listening to the plight of the stranded people and promptly re-arranging the special train for them. It also thanked various private organisations, NGOs and individuals who have been rendering help to the stranded people in Bengaluru.

The task force has arranged about 70 volunteers to cater to the needs of the crowd. It was also informed that Sunbird Trust will be serving lunch to the returnees during the day-long screening at Tennis Pavilion Palace while My Home India will be providing dry food to them for their journey.

‘I’m so excited to go back home as I was stranded for months,’ said Paramsibo, an employee who stays with his sister in a rented house in the city. “Finally I’m really thankful to our government as they are providing us a special train from Bangalore to Nagaland,” he added.

Vituo Lea, who also works in the city, stated that due to Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, many Nagas stranded outside the state have been facing financial problem and without ‘daily basic necessities’.

‘We are very grateful to all our brothers and sisters for welcoming us (stranded citizens of Nagaland),’ he said.
