More rain expected in Nagaland, northeast states— IMD
DIMAPUR — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that cyclonic circulations over Assam and surrounding areas are likely to create intense downpours across the northeastern region over the coming days.
On Tuesday, the IMD issued a warning predicting thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph at isolated locations across Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on May 1.
In Nagaland, scattered rainfall and thundershowers is very likely in Peren, Dimapur, Kiphire, Longleng, Mon, and Tuensang. Meanwhile, isolated rainfall/thundershowers are likely in Phek, Wokha, and Zunheboto, with fairly widespread rainfall/thundershowers anticipated in Kohima.
According to the IMD weather forecast, isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya from May 1 and the 2nd. Similarly, from May 1 to the 3rd, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
Over the next five days, the northeastern region is expected to witness fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, occurrences of light to moderate rainfall/snowfall, accompanied with isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, it said.
