Dimapur, July 1 (EMN): Three more members from National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland rendered their resignation on Friday, joining the NPP officials who had resigned en masse on June 28 citing lack of ‘political wisdom’ of the NPP state president.

State General Secretary (IPR and Media) of NPP, Tohovi Achumi, who had resigned on Friday, while interacting with journalists at Emerald Inn, Duncan Basti, Dimapur, stated that three of them were resigning due to the “autocratic style” of the NPP state president, adding that every political party has democratic values, which has to be followed in truth and in spirit.

Achumi refuted the claim of the NPP party that the ‘handful’ of members who have tendered their resignation do not even comprise 2% of the total party strength is “completely absurd and baseless”. He said that NPP Nagaland states workers who were resigning comprised 80% to 90% and not otherwise.

He went on to say that NPP Nagaland has Mon, Longleng, Tuensang, Kiphire, Mokokchung, Phek, Wokha and Dimapur units and out of these, Mon, Tuensang, Mokokchung, and Kiphire had resigned with all rank and file of the party workers in their respective districts.

‘In the remaining three districts, Dimapur district president had already resigned last year categorically stating trust issue with the NPP State president, while Wokha district is only being mobilised and operating in Longsa village; and Phek district NPP party is centered in Pfutsero,’ he shared.

‘Therefore, the claims of 2 % resigning does not arise, in fact NPP Nagaland state as of now only has about 8% to 10 % of them, claiming to be NPP Nagaland,’ he added.

Meanwhile, former president of NPP Karbi Anglong, Rajen Timung, said that last year on December 5, 2021 People’s Party Karbi Anglong merged with NPP under the leadership of Lima Longkumer.

Timung went on to say that NPP hills autonomous committee was ‘dissolved till grassroots level’ on June 23 due to lack of commitment from NPP national leadership.

‘Even during the last election, no one from the NPP national leadership campaigned for them and no logistic support was provided by the national leaders of NPP,’ he added.

In this regard, Achumi also stated that it is ‘crystal clear that the failure of NPP to win an Assembly seat in KAAC elections is not the fault of Lima Longkumer but the NPP’s national leadership should be blamed instead’.

During press conference, resignation letter of State General Secretary (IPR and Media) of NPP, Tohovi Achumi, State President, Women Wing, Yashila Ao and State Working President, Women Wing, Ruth Pochury was read out to be sent to the National President of NPP office in New Delhi.
