Kohima, March 1
The Northern Angami Youth Organization (NAYO) has condemned and expressed outraged against the February 22 night assault at New Jalukie, where one of its members Neizeu Yhome and his assistant both of whom are uniformed personnel were beaten ‘unconscious’ by a group of unruly youths numbering about five individuals all currently under police custody.
In a press statement, NAYO placed on record that, the insensitive behavior of the investigating officer at Jalukie police station towards visiting relatives on February 23 was totally disheartening. Therefore, NAYO has urged the Superintendent of Police ( SP) of Peren to change the investigating officer who had declared all the assaulters as minors without verifying their age through documents or taking any medical opinion.
NAYOsaid it is saddened by the response of such a uniformed personnel towards family members of another uniformed personnel who will bear the scars and after effects of his injuries for life.
The organization opined that it would be in the interest of all, if another officer who will not display unprofessional ethics or suspected favoritism takes charge of the investigation.
NAYO said it is already clear that the manner in which the assaulters outflanked a trained police officer and his assistant bears testimony to their violent behavior. Moreover using lethal objects to knock him unconscious from behind is enough evidence of their intentions.
NAYO reminded law enforcement that releasing Haibobe Zeliang, Kidun Zeliang, Gaijuaklung Rongmei, Dingtanlung and Paulangwang all from New Jalukie village from confinement before the health of the victims is assured and issue is settled both in a court of law and beyond it will cause further complications and already tensed and frayed emotions.
NAYO while wishing a speedy recovery to both UBSI Neizeu and his assistant also expressed its appreciation to the quick response of the local policeman who came across the attack and thwarted any further assault upon his colleagues.
NAYO expressed sincerest gratitude to all the support been given by various related organization’s in the print media.
