Mopong Hongkong to abstain from Independence Day celebrations
Dimapur, Aug. 7 (EMN): Mopong Hongkong Public Forum (MHPF) has resolved to abstain from participating in the upcoming Independence Day celebrations as a mark of protest against the shifting of
Mopong EAC from ADC Tobu administration to Angjangyang SDO(C) in 2014.
An update from MHPF stated that vehicular movement would be restricted, and all government established offices across Mopong jurisdiction would be closed from 6 am to 6 pm. It added that the public or students will be allowed to participate in the said event.
It stated that the shift to Angjangyang SDO(C) was made without the knowledge and consultation of the people of Mopong.
MHPF said that it had repeatedly appealed to the state government for the retention of Mopong EAC under ADC Tobu, yet there was no positive response from the government till now.
Further, the forum said that civil societies of Tobu Mopong and Angjangyang were invited for a discussion at the Commissioner’s office on February 4 where ‘details of the same and people’s will were shared to the committee’.
‘However, no positive response has been received in the last three years, even after repeated appeals made to the state government’, read the statement.
“We further caution individuals and all the concerned to strictly adhere to the decision taken by the Forum in order to avoid any untoward incidents that may arise,” it added.
