DIMAPUR — Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma, launched on Tuesday the Poshan Maah for the district at the DRDA Hall in Mon. The month-long event will run from September 1 to the 30th.

The event was organised by the Department of Social Welfare on the theme “Suposhit Kishori, Sashakt Nari,” according to a DIPR report.

In his speech, the DC highlighted that the primary focus of the government’s Poshan Maah initiative is to combat malnutrition among children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. Additionally, the initiative aims to promote justice and development in society.

He emphasised that without proper nutritional food, children cannot grow healthy and strong enough to face challenges. He also encouraged everyone to familiarise themselves with the objectives of the programme and to enhance awareness at the grassroots level.

The programme was chaired by Nokyam Khoiyem, district coordinator. As part of the event, a pledge was read out.

In Longleng, the month-long celebration of Poshan Maah for the ICDS project was launched on September 3 at the CDPO office premises, on the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Nam”.

DC Longleng, W Manpai Phom, speaking on the occasion as the special guest, encouraged the Anganwadi workers to work diligently. He emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability to ensure the benefits reach the people of the district.

He stated that mothers play a crucial role in shaping and building society or a nation, guiding individuals towards prosperity or adversity. The nutritional value for both mother and child is essential, and education is most effective when a child receives optimal nutrition and is able to perform to their best abilities.

He further urged the gathering to disseminate information on protecting the environment. Protecting the earth involves more than just large-scale tree planting; activities such as hunting and fishing should also be reduced, requiring widespread participation, he said. Also, he led the Poshan pledge.
