Dimapur, April 23 (EMN): The Kohima district disaster management authority (DDMA) held its quarterly meeting on April 22 in Kohima. The meeting was presided over by the capital district’s Deputy Commissioner Anoop Khinchi, updates from the government publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) stated in its updates on Tuesday.

The main agenda of the meeting was to update the district’s disaster management plan, the IPR stated. The deputy commissioner called upon the members to contribute suggestions to be incorporated into the plan.

Khinchi informed the group about a community cleanliness drive that is scheduled to be conducted on May 4 as directed by the state’s chief secretary. The officer has asked stakeholders and members of the DDMA to offer suggestions.

On the district disaster management plan, District Project Associate Victor Yhome highlighted a booklet containing five chapters explaining various topics including district profiles and roles and responsibilities of ‘line departments,’ the IPR stated.

The members of the agency were requested to go through the book’s contents and contribute constructive suggestions that may be incorporated into the publication for further submission to the Nagaland State Disaster Management Agency for approval, the IPR stated.

District Disaster Management Officer Thejangulie Zao informed the members about the DDMA’s visit to the Kohima Municipal Council’s ‘garbage dumping site.’ The team was led by the chief executive officer of the DDMA, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa.

The visit was on receiving information from the administrator of the KMC in regard to the ‘visibility of fire and smoke’ at the garbage dumping area even after the monsoon season gets over.

The IPR stated: “The team inspected the area and taking into account the vulnerability of spreading the fire to nearby forest had written to the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority for assistance towards the preventive exercise which was accorded by the NSDMA while the KMC has been given to execute the work along with fire departments and DDMA Kohima.”

In regard to India Disaster Resource Network, the ‘line departments’ that have not yet submitted relevant data were reminded to “submit the availability of resources of their respective departments in a given format in soft and hard copy,” the IPR explained.

On the matter of village disaster management authority, Zao informed that Nagaland was the only state in India where the state had “notified” the disaster management authority till the village level.

However, the IPR informed, some villages were still yet to submit the list of members till date. The administrative officers were requested to address the matter.

The district agency also deliberated on the monsoon preparedness exercise as directed by the chief secretary, Temjen Toy, who is also the chief executive officer of the state executive committee, to conduct a state-wide cleanliness drive on May 4. The IPR stated that the district has been directed to prepare its monsoon preparedness program.

Zao suggested that a team may be formed to identify some vulnerable areas so that the areas in question can be concentrated on during the social work. Further information and directives may be issued to the members concerning this matter, the IPR stated.

Officials from the Line departments also spoke about their ‘preparedness status’ for any emergency in their respective area, the IPR added.
