Mon, Tuensang observe World Blood Donor Day

Dimapur, June 15: Mon observed the ‘World Blood Donor Day’ on the theme “Blood connects us all.” The programme was jointly organised by DAPCU, Shansham Organization and District Hospital Mon at OST Chapel Hall, District Hospital Mon, on June 14, sponsored by Nagaland State Blood Transfusion Council and Project Axshya. Speaking on the occasion, Supervisor DAPCU Mon, Mongnyei, emphasized on the importance of creating platform to disseminate information and to attract more blood donors. In a motivational speech, blood donor, Loipang, said donating blood and saving life is a noble missionary work and appealed to the gathering to donate blood voluntarily leaving aside their fears and doubts. Blood recipient Mrs. Kenlong shared her testimony on how she struggled to get blood in the hospital and was finally saved through voluntary blood donor. Presenting power point on blood science, MO, PMR, Dr. Ngampa briefed on the basic facts of blood. Stating that there is no substitution for blood, he appealed to the gathering to become responsible citizen by donating blood and further disseminate information on its importance to their community. To mark the occasion, Mon Voluntary Blood Donors’ Association (MVBDA) was formally launched by Dr. Wungyong, In-charge Medical Superintendent DHM. Dr. Wungyong appreciated the members of the association for voluntarily coming forward to shoulder the responsibility for a noble cause. He advised that the association might face lots of obstacles and not get deserved appreciation due to ignorance of the mass in donating blood/ blood transfusion. Nevertheless, he encouraged the association to do their best to increase its members through awareness campaign. He was also optimistic that with the launching of MVBDA, no patient in Mon would die due to want of blood. MVBDA is headed by Tongmeth Nekong as president, C Nahnyei as secretary and Joseph Chipa as coordinator besides other members. Tuensang: Tuensang district also observed World Blood Donor Day at Gabriel Chapel, Tuensang, on the theme “Blood connect us all, share life Give blood,” with Dr. Tochi Chang, Medical Officer of Blood Bank District Hospital Tuensang, as resource person. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Tochi said blood requirement in Tuensang district was high but low in voluntary blood donation. He, therefore, emphasised on the need of involvement of more youth, more activities like sensitization and awareness on voluntary blood donation at various level in order to provide quality blood to the people. Dr. Tochi also acknowledged the blood donors and the Gabriel ministry for active participation in saving life and further encouraged the members to continue the good work and motivate more people for the good cause. Motivational speech was delivered by Moses and special number was presented by members of Gabriel ministry. The programme concluded with voluntary blood donation and selected new committee for the VBDA with Dr, Tochi Chang, Wabong , Joshua, Rovi Mor and Miss Akam as members.
