Mon tragic incident completely a case of road accident, no foul play linked, says DC
Public requested to refrain from circulating any misinformation relating to the incident
DIMAPUR — With tension brewing along the Assam and Nagaland border after two persons were found dead on Monday in a tragic ‘road accident’ between Angjangyang and Longching under Mon district, the deputy commissioner (DC) of Mon on Wednesday said that based on the official report, the incident that occurred on September 25 was “completely a case of unfortunate vehicle accident and no case of foul play is linked with it”.

The DC further requested the public to take note of the fact and refrain from circulating any misinformation relating to the incident.
‘With regard to the unfortunate incident that occurred at Angjangyang sub-division under Mon district where a white-colour Tata Yodha met with an accident, a missing complaint was filed by the owner of the said vehicle on September 25, 2023, at Aboi Police Station under Mon district,’ read the press release from the district administration.
“Based on the missing complaint, a search operation led by Officer-in-Charge, Police Station was conducted. During the search operation, the above-mentioned vehicle and two bodies were retrieved on September 25 2023 from the accident site, 200 feet below the road between Angjangyang and Longching under Mon district. Accordingly, the due procedure was followed and the post-mortem was conducted at District hospital, Mon. After observing all necessary formalities, the bodies were handed over to the family members on September 26 2023,” it added.
Asserting that it was a case of accident, the DC urged the public to avoid spreading wrong information.
When Eastern Mirror contacted Aboi Police station, seeking to know its findings, it informed that the pickup truck was returning (to Assam) after transporting groceries to Tobu.
The owner of the vehicle informed the police station after losing contact with the two deceased occupants, following which a suo motu case was registered and their bodies were found 200 feet below the road. “No foul play can be suspected as the belongings of both the deceased were found with them,” said the police.
Meanwhile, Mon DC had on Tuesday issued a travel advisory as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident in the region in view of the tense situation arising at Sonari, Charaideo district of Assam in connection with the unfortunate incident. All vehicles engaged in public transport and related activities have been advised to refrain from travelling from Mon district to Assam/Dimapur and vice versa via Sonari, Charaideo, and Assam route until the situation returns to normalcy.

Were also advised to avoid the said route and take an alternate road till the situation normalises.
