Health Minister Paiwang Konyak reviewed the flood situation in Mon, strengthened emergency health preparedness, and directed measures to prevent waterborne disease outbreaks.
DIMAPUR — Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Paiwang Konyak, on July 25 held a coordination meeting with the district administration in Mon to review the situation following the recent floods and strengthen emergency health preparedness.
According to a DIPR report, the meeting was attended by deputy commissioner Mon, the superintendent of police, the chief medical officer (CMO), and the medical superintendent of District Hospital, Mon.
During the meeting, the minister briefed officials on the situation in Tizit town, where the recent floods contaminated local wells, leading to an acute shortage of safe drinking water.
He also reviewed the public health situation in Mon town and urged the CMO to work closely with the district administration in a coordinated manner.

Paiwang stressed the need to remain vigilant against possible outbreaks of waterborne diseases in the aftermath of the floods.
To strengthen emergency medical preparedness, he handed over INR3 lakh to the CMO and directed that hospital status reports be submitted every six hours. He also cautioned officials against making unnecessary claims for relief assistance.
Medical Superintendent of District Hospital, Mon, Dr. Aman Konyak, informed the meeting that landslides had severed road connectivity to many villages, resulting in a decline in the number of patients visiting the hospital.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Supongmenla updated the minister on the availability of medicines in the district.
The deputy commissioner Mon also presented an overview of the damage caused by the natural disaster, highlighting that landslides had cut off roads and disrupted power supply and communication networks across several parts of the district.
