Mon hospital upgrade on way

MINISTER for Health and Family Welfare Imkong L Imchen today asserted that the upgrade of the Mon District Hospital will be taken up at war footing once the sanction is received from the central government.
The Minister along with team of medical officers including the Mission Director NRHM Dr. Khanlo Magh and Engineering Wing of the department Limaakum is in Mon to grace the Flag Hoisting of independence Day celebration tomorrow. Arriving here today, he visited the much talked Mon District Hospital, which is presently being run by Medicine Sans Frontiers with full sponsorship for an extended period of one year.
He thoroughly checked the facilities being provided under MFS and expressed his happiness that the foreign team had been doing well in delivering medical services for the cause of humanity to the people of the district as well as those coming from Arunachal and Myanmar.
He also lauded that with their coming into Mon the MSF have instilled work culture into the people of the area and also sense of responsibility while also providing other facilities.
Nonetheless, he regretted that as their contract period which had ended last year and was extended for another year would also be ending by December this year. For that reason, he requested MSF to accept the request of the district and also the government to extend their stay for further period of time.
On the other hand he asserted that the state government is serious about upgrading the 50-beded MDH to 100-beded hospital for which the Union Ministry has already approved the project but the funds amounting to Rs. 24 crore are awaited.
He assured that once the fund is made available the state government with all earnestness would implement the project without further delay on phase manner at the present location of the hospital.
Local MLA and Chairman Nagaland Khadi and Village Industries Board, Thongwang also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the problems of the area. NRHM Director Dr Khanlo Magh also spoke on the occasion.
The brief programme at the hospital was chaired by Medical Superintendent Dr Limasangba while CMO MDH Dr. UK Konyak delivered the welcome address and SMO Dr Leamnyei tendered the vote of thanks.
Later, interacting with representatives of Konyak Union and Konyak Women Hoho at GA Guest House, the Minister talked on the same line but requested the NGOs and tribal leaders to check the problem of landownership.
He said priority should be given to setting up of the hospital while the demands of the landowners should be secondary and solved later.
The Konyak leaders on their part assured of fullest cooperation in fulfilling the long cherished dream of the district.
