DIMAPUR — Mon district returned home to a hero’s welcome after lifting the 24th Dr. T Ao Trophy at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, on August 15.
The champions were greeted late Saturday night with a human chain at Nagaland Gate in Tizit around 9:30 pm before proceeding to Mon headquarters, where another chain of supporters and a volley of traditional muzzle-loading guns awaited them in the early hours of Sunday.
The Konyak Union’s office in Mon hosted a brief reception to mark the homecoming.

With celebrations continuing, the Mon District Football Association and the wider community basked in the victory, their first major trophy in the state’s inter-district football championship.
In recognition of the win, the deputy commissioner of Mon has declared Monday, August 18, a holiday for all government and private schools under Mon town headquarters.
Students will instead gather at 11 am at the Public Local Ground for a thanksgiving programme organised by the district administration, Mon District Football Association, and Konyak civil society organisations.
