Mon district takes decisive steps to tackle dengue outbreak

DIMAPUR — The medical department in Mon district will take on a series of critical actions to tackle the dengue outbreak in the district.

Following a meeting with the Health and Family Welfare, P Paiwang Konyak who visited the District Hospital, Mon on Sunday, the hospital administration and other stakeholders resolved to make infrastructure adjustments in order to create a separate dengue ward. Along with this, it will also enlist community participation from various civil society organisations (CSOs) to support the medical and municipal council in source reduction and maintaining sanitary practices.

Elisa Tests would also be made available at the district hospital for efficient testing and monitoring.

As per an update, the health minister inspected the hospital, interacted with the patients and attendants. He also held a closed-door meeting with the medical officers and nurses of the district hospital (DH), during which the resolutions were made.

Deputy Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Mon, Dr. Thomas Keppen, who is currently heading the district hospital, briefed the minister on the ground reality of the dengue crisis and sought additional manpower including nurses.

In response, the minister appreciated the doctors and nurses of DH Mon, for their efforts to control the dengue crisis, resulting in decrease of cases in the recent past, it said.

On the need for additional manpower, Paiwang reportedly assured to address the issue at the earliest. Additionally, it was resolved that the requirement of human resources especially MO, nurses and lab technician to be addressed from various sources and the operational cost of manpower outsourced from other districts would be managed by the department.

The minister assured to provide printer for complete blood count (CBC) 5 chamber, which he donated earlier. He also urged the hospital authorities to segregate the dengue patients from those with general ailments so that accurate procedure of treatment can be administered.

Further, the minister stressed on the need for community participation to control the rise of dengue in the district. He pointed out that the administration, civil societies and health department can act as “three wings” to control dengue in the community, especially in Mon district.

Accordingly, it was resolved that the municipal would come in to maintain sanitation in the wards, colonies and towns in the district, the update stated.

The minister acknowledged the Mon district legislators, KBBB, individuals and all those who generously donated cash and kind to the district hospital. During the Sunday visit, the minister also donated INR 2 lakh to the district hospital as emergency fund.

1523 dengue patients admitted in DH Mon

Meanwhile, according to the deputy CMO and medical superintendent in-charge Dr. Aman Konyak, the total number of dengue patients admitted at in the district hospital was 1523, out of which 23 patients were referred outside the district.

The officials informed that the hospital is giving medicines and investigations free of cost to all admitted patients through CMHIS and Ayushman Bharat cards.
