Mon district observes World TB Day

DIMAPUR — Conveying a message of hope through the theme ‘Yes! We can end TB,’ the District Health Society, Mon observed World TB Day under National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) at the District Hospital conference hall, on march 24.

Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma was the special guest of the event, an update stated.

District TB officer, Dr. Tinenlo James Katiwa, in his speech, informed that there were 592 TB cases in Mon district in 2023. This year, 101 TB cases have been notified in Nikshay till date, he said.

Katiwa said that the district’s effort is to scale up TB screening and enhance preventive treatment by sputum examination, x-ray screening and lab test.

“We have a long way to achieve the target to eliminate TB by 2025 and that we have a huge task to achieve it,” he added.

Further, he declared Wetting village under Phomching block and Shingnyu under Tobu block as TB mukt villages of the district. He also presented certificate of appreciation to community influencers.

In his address, the DC emphasised on early detection as crucial in defeating the disease.

While expressing the hope to see more TB mukt villages in the coming years, he congratulated the two villages and the department.

Earlier, the programme started with an invocation by YP David, chaplain of District Hospital Mon, and Kaipong shared his success story in defeating the disease.

Vijojo, DPC of Piramal Foundation, led a pledge to work together with sensitivity to end TB. The vote of thanks was delivered by Imliwapang Jamir, STLS NTEP, Mon.
