The Inaugural Programme of the Mon District Fourth Inter – Department Tournament was held at Officers’ Club Mon on November 23 with Khriehu Liezietsu, Parliamentary Secretary Youth Resources and Sports, Music Task Force and Lotteries as the chief guest. Speaking at the programme the chief guest said that Battledore and Shuttlecock was the name of the game which started more than 2000 yrs back played mostly in Asia and part of Europe and the same has reached us here today as one of the most popular sports, the games of Badminton. He added that many people view Badminton as a gentlemen’s game, a game of class. He said that India also witness the rise in popularity of the games and also fared reasonable well with outstanding players like Saina Nehwal, P.V. Sindhu, K. Srikant etc. he also said that it is the game that carries with it many positive health benefits, particularly for the people who are in service adding that regular players of the games can attain optimum levels of health for a longer healthy life. He said that the games will foster better friendship, understanding and a sense of belonging and togetherness among the officers of the district. He goes on saying that with a healthy body and mine let all strive to contribute something positive in the respective fields of work so that performance positively impacts the general public.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Ilika Zhimomi SDO (civil) Mon. Invocation was pronounced by Rev. J. Tenwang Konyak, District Chaplain. Special song was performed by Toxic peace. Oath taking was carried by Thejavizo Nakhro EAC Sadar followed by vote of thanks by Alongse Sangtam Principal ITI Mon and General Secretary Officer’s Club Mon.
