Dimapur, May 10 (EMN): A meeting to discuss Child Rights was conducted on May 8. The meeting was organised by Child Welfare Committee of Mon in collaboration with World Vision India, Mon ADP, at the Walo Guest House in Mon town, the IPR reports.
During the event, the deputy commissioner of Mon district, W Honje Konyak said that the district still has a good number of underprivileged and ‘deprived' children who are ‘not getting even their basic needs.’ Therefore, the sensitization programme is “very much needed to identify the issues and problems faced by children,” the IPR quoted him as having stated. The society should be prepared to tackle “all the problems” faced by the children and should be reported, he was stated to have said.
In her keynote address, the chairperson of Child Warfare Committee of Mon, Tuishimla said that children need care, protection and overall development.
“Child sexual abuse and child labour is becoming very common where most of the cases go unreported. People of the district need a lot of awareness on the issue and sexually abused child should be rescued,” she was stated to have said. Also, she lamented that child labour was common. Most of the children are going to other districts to work as ‘servants,’ the IPR stated.
Also, the programme manager of World Vision India, Mon chapter, Dr. L Khobung said World Vision focuses on improving children’s well being through child-focused transformational development, emergency response and promotion of justice (advocacy).
“Their goal is the sustained well-being of children within the families and communities, especially the most vulnerable.
World Vision views the well-being of the children in holistic terms; healthy individual development, positive relationships and a context that provides safety, social justice and participation in civil society,” the IPR added.
