Mon cruise to T20 win over Phek, Niuland beat Zunheboto in football

DIMAPUR — On the second day of the ongoing Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024 T20 cricket tournament, in the quarter match at the Sovima Cricket Ground, Mon defeated Phek by 97 runs.

According to an update, batting first, Mon scored 203/1 in 20 overs, led by Shamwang Wangnao’s brilliant 107 runs off 58 balls. In reply, Phek could only manage 106/6 in their 20 overs. Pangnyei P of Mon was the top bowler, taking 2 wickets for 7 runs in 2 overs.

In another quarter match at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Niuland defeated Zunheboto by a massive 119 runs. Batting first, Niuland piled on 206/3 as Hokaito Zhimomi smashed 95 off just 53 balls. Zunheboto crumbled to 87 all out in response. Saurav Kumar was the best bowler for Niuland, with figures of 2/17 in 3 overs.

In a pre-quarter match at the Sovima Cricket Ground, Wokha defeated Tuensang by 8 wickets. Batting first, Tuensang scored 78/8 in their 20 overs. In response, Wokha chased down the target in 13.1 overs, with Renjamo Y Mozhui scoring 32. Renchio Odyuo was named Player of the Match for his bowling figures of 2/7 in 4 overs for Wokha.

In another pre-quarter match held at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Mokokchung beat Tseminyu by 28 runs after posting 154/8 in their 20 overs. Nripen Rai top scored for Mokokchung with a quickfire 52 off 25 balls. In reply, Tseminyu fell short at 126/8. Nuntilo Magh was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2/19 in 4 overs.

Men’s football

Meanwhile, in men’s football group stage matches on Thursday at the Police Complex in Chümoukedima, in Group A matches, Dimapur and Longleng played out a 1-1 draw while Mokokchung were thrashed 1-6 by Phek.

In Group B, Niuland defeated Zunheboto 3-1 and Tuensang lost 0-2 against Mon. In Group C, Kohima thrashed Kiphire 13-0 while Shamator lost a close match 0-1 to Peren.

Finally, in Group D, Tseminyu went down 1-4 to Noklak and Wokha lost 1-4 to Chümoukedima.
