MOKOKCHUNG — In an effort to encourage self-reliance and promote local entrepreneurship, the Tongdentsuyong Yarisem Telok (TYT) launched the Tongdentsuyong ‘Entrepreneurs Sales Day’ at the Tongdentsuyong Community Hall premises on October 16.
The initiative, led by Imkongsanen, Councillor of Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), aims to empower local talents, particularly the youth, by providing them a platform to display and sell their locally made products.
Local entrepreneurs and youth showcased a diverse range of products from arts and handicrafts to baked goods, customised apparel, and various homemade items.

Speaking at the inaugural event, Councillor Imkongsanen highlighted that Tongdentsuyong Ward is home to many skilled individuals whose products have already begun attracting attention beyond the locality.
Observing this growing potential, the TYT initiated the sales day as the first step of a larger plan to create sustainable opportunities for the ward’s residents, he said.
“This is just the beginning, but we hope to make it a regular event — maybe monthly, weekly, or even twice a week depending on the situation,” Imkongsanen said.
He explained that while not everyone can afford to open a permanent shop, such flexible market initiatives would enable people to stay productive and self-sufficient without the burden of high investments.
Encouraging the participants, the councillor remarked, “When you earn from your own work, you will be encouraged to do more. Those with even a small backyard can start a kitchen garden, sell their produce, and earn. The idea is that no one should remain idle.”
Calling the event a “baby step,” he urged entrepreneurs to remain consistent so that “the community can one day walk and run together.”
He further expressed optimism that even if a handful of individuals benefit from the initiative, it could serve as an inspiration for others and ultimately uplift the entire ward.
“If 10 or 20 individuals can grow through this effort, they will, in turn, motivate others to do the same,” he added.
Imtichizung, Chairman of Tongdentsuyong Ward, also delivered words of encouragement, appreciating the collective effort of the TYT and community leaders in bringing the initiative to life.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from both sellers and buyers, with the community hall bustling with activity throughout the day.
