NSDMA places Mokokchung and Wokha on high alert as thunderstorms and moderate-heavy rain are forecast across Nagaland on September 22
DIMAPUR — Mokokchung and Wokha have been placed on high alert for thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by moderate to heavy rain on September 22, according to the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA).
The alert is part of the NSDMA’s four-day weather outlook for September 19 to 22. Ten other districts—Chumoukedima, Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Tseminyu, Tuensang and Zunheboto—are expected to see thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rain on September 22.
Peren and Shamator are likely to receive thunderstorms and lightning with light rain, while Phek is forecast to get light rain. Overcast conditions are expected in Kiphire and Meluri. The outlook for September 19–21 is largely for thunderstorms and light rain across several districts, with isolated overcast or cloudy conditions.
Mokokchung is forecast to receive the highest cumulative rainfall during the four-day period, at 61.91 mm. It is followed by Mon with 59.40 mm and Wokha with 57.93 mm.
Tuensang is expected to receive 56.89 mm, followed by Tseminyu (54.31 mm), Kohima (53.57 mm) and Longleng (52.58 mm). Zunheboto and Noklak are forecast to receive 45.74 mm and 43.55 mm respectively.
The NSDMA has advised residents to keep track of weather updates through the Safer Nagaland mobile application and its Weather Portal. It also urged people to follow official advisories and exercise caution during thunderstorms and rainfall, particularly on September 22.
