Mokokchung, Aug. 28 (EMN): Mokokchung district organised a felicitation programme for winning the ‘Swachh Survekshan 2020 Award’ as cleanest city under 25,000-50,000 population in Northeast zone at Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) conference hall on August 24.

Speaking on the occasion, the newly appointed MMC administrator and ADC Mokokchung Shashank Pratap Singh congratulated each and every individual and group for their contribution towards receiving the prestigious award. Stating that there are lot of works needed to be implemented in Mokokchung to keep the town cleaner, he affirmed that works which need to be implemented would be prioritised.

Singh appealed to the people to focus on reduction of waste, segregation of waste, recycling of waste and proper management of solid waste. The MMC administrator also asserted that previous MMC administrator had done commendable works to keep the town clean and also expressed hope that people of the town would continue to co-operate and support him as they had supported his predecessor to keep the town clean.

He further said that Mokokchung should work harder in order to receive the cleanest town award again.

Mokokchung District SBM Committee chairman, MB Longkumer, challenged the people to take the award as an eye-opener.

“We have been awakened from our slumber; let us not be satisfied with this achievement nor should we be proud of ourselves but let us work harder to become better,” Longkumer asserted.

While dwelling on the issues pertaining to sanitation works in the town, Longkumer stated that till date, SBM has managed to provide only six pick-up truck to six wards out of 18 wards under MMC. He also urged the public to acknowledge the sanitation workers, who have toiled hard to keep the town clean.

Besides the MMC administrator, MMC staff, and Mokokchung district Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), representatives from All Ward Union Mokokchung, Ao Kaketshir Mungdang, Mokokchung Press Club (MPC), Run Mokokchung, Clean Mokokchung Campaign, Mokokchung Town Lanur Telungjem, Kabor Telok, Young Christian Women Association and others attended the programme.
