Dimapur, June 25 (EMN): The Mokokchung division of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) is “flabbergasted” and ‘shocked’ at what it called “poor workmanship” of a “blacktopping work” at Khar village in the district. A note from the division on Tuesday stated that the work was undertaken as part of phase-2 of the “upgradation of road from Alongchen to Mangkolemba via Impur, Mopungchuket, Mongchen.” It measures a distance of 19 km, the unit stated.
The NPF accused the executive engineer for PWD (roads and bridges) for Mangkolemba division of giving “such lame excuse” of the contractor as ‘not having cleaned up the top surface properly for black topping while executing last night (work, June 18) due to absence of proper lighting system and unfavourable climatic condition.’ Giving such excuses as the ‘main reason’ for the poor workmanship is an insult to the public and “a treachery and a betrayal of the trust that was reposed on him and the executing agency and the contractor,” the note stated.
Further, the NPF stated that the contractor ‘postponing the black topping item temporarily till the rainy session is over’ should not be the end of the work. Rather, it should ‘really be to improve the efficiency of the ongoing project,’ and not just ‘some deceitful lies to let developmental fund vanish in thin air,’ the NPF stated.
The NPF wondered under whose directive and authority the implementing agency the work on said road was undertaken.
“As concerned citizens, the NPF Mokokchung division will be watching the developmental works of the government and its implementations and raised necessary voice in the interest of the general public,” the NIP unit added.
