Dimapur, Sep. 30 (EMN): The Mokokchung municipal authorities conducted various cleanliness activities in the town as part of observing the sanitation programme ‘Swachhata Hi Seva.’
The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) issued updates to the media on Monday informing about the events in the town.
The IPR reported a mass cleanliness drive that was conducted on September 28 in the Mokokchung municipal jurisdiction initiated by the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC).

The sanitation event focused on clearing and cleaning drainage and collecting plastic waste in the wards, the IPR informed.

The municipal authorities informed that the plastic waste collection schedules from the MMC for effective implementation of plastic waste management in Mokokchung would be an ongoing process, the updates informed.

This is to facilitate ‘better plastic waste management,’ the IPR stated.
On this note, the municipal authorities urged residents to bring the plastic waste to their respective collection point in accordance with the schedule made by the MMC, the updates stated.

The IPR reported also that an awareness programme to promote waste management with special focus on plastic waste segregation and collection and home composting was conducted on the same day in all the wards under the council.

The programme was organised by the MMC to inform people, especially among women and homemakers about how to properly segregate various household wastes, the updates stated.

Resource persons from the Clean Mokokchung Campaign, Kabor Group, YWCA and Socio-Environment Management Board imparted information about the basic methods that are used to segregate household waste.

These aspects included how to use them as bio-compost or how to recycle them, the IPR stated.
To encourage women about segregating household waste, collection bins were distributed during the programme, the IPR stated.
