Mokokchung inter-ward football tournament underway

Arkong, Sungkomen and Yimyu register wins

Mokokchung, March 9 (EMN): Arkong, Sungkomen and Yimyu registered wins while Dilong and Mongsenbai settled in a draw on the first day of the 2nd Mokokchung inter-ward football tournament at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on March 9.

In the first match, Salangtem scored in the 29th minute by Talong as Arkong had trouble building their tempo in the first half.  Entering the second half, Arkong fought back with an equaliser by Temsutoshi in the 44th minute. Not satisfied with 1-1 score, Arkong did not allow their heads to drop and continued their offensive pursue which finally paid off when Jungpetrong and Lipoksashi converted in the 47th and 54th minutes, thus sealing the match with a 3-1 triumph over Salangtem.

In the second match, Dilong and Mongsenbai settled on a 3-3 draw. Dilong drew first blood through Bendangsunep in the 6th minute and Mongsenbai replied with two goals in the first half. Ashish Rai and Menjur scored their respective goals in the 27th and 29th minutes.

With last minutes ticking for the final whistle, Dilong’s Moa came to the rescue when he converted the equaliser in the 53th minute. In response, Mongsenbai immediately pushed up the third goal in the 54th minute and the fate of uncertainty again loomed around Dilong.

Nevertheless, in the last dying minutes, Dilong came from behind to settle for a draw when Bendangchuchang scored the equalizer in the 60th minute.

The third match ended with Sungkomen triumphing over Tongdentsuyong by 2-1. After a scrappy first half, both teams were trying to find their rhythm and working for a breakthrough. The game opened up with Tongdentsuyong breaking the deadlock in the 37th minute by Limasungkum. However, Sungkomen quickly responded with an equaliser in 38th minute through Lipoksungba.  Two minutes later Sungkomen’s Niato struck a screamer to seal the match with a 2-1 victory for Sungkomen.

In the fourth match, Yimyu thrashed Kumlong 2-0. Goals from Limanukshi (14th minute) and Imnasashi (28th) were enough to secure three points for Yimyu and propel them as the top dog in their pool.
