Mokokchung, March 18 (EMN):
Penli and Artang produced an incredible all-action display to overcome their respective opponents in the semi-final matches and enter the finals in a thrilling style at the ongoing Mokokchung inter-ward football tournament at Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung on March 18.

In the first semi-final match, Penli hammered down Mongsebai knocking them out of contention for a spot in the final by 4-0. Penli’s Takomeren struck early in the 10th minute of the game, rattling Mongsenbai in the first half time who could not captalise the equaliser.

Entering the second half, a strategic change in Mangsebai gameplay backfired as Penli started controlling the pace of the game.  Imsuwapang scored twice in the 54th and 57th minute, which swung the game in Penli’s favour.

As the fans waited for the final whistle for celebrations on the pitch, Penli got another opportunity via penalty which Subonglemba Chang converted in the 60th minute to enter the finals in a thrilling style.

In the second semi-final match, Artang strengthened their position to qualify for the final play-offs with a 2-0 victory over Arkong. Two incredible goals from Chuba and Moa Imchen were enough to knock down the defending Champion Arkong out of the competition and propel them as a contender for the coveted title.

Penli made their intentions clear right from the start when Chuba struck a thunderbolt from the right corner in the fifth minute and broke the deadlock. Penli kept attacking and got their reward just before the half-hour mark when left-footer Moa Imchen converted a free-kick from the right corner and shook Arkong.

Arkong ward had a period of possession after Penli posted 2-0 but poor passing meant nothing came of the efforts till the final whistle.
