Mokokchung, May 11 (EMN): Mokokchung Inter-School Badminton championship 2022, organised by the Mokokchung District Badminton Association (MDBA) got underway at Badminton Stadium in Mokokchung town on May 11.

The yearly event of MDBA was halted for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In this year’s championship, a total of 130 players representing 12 schools from Mokokchung are taking part under 16 different categories.

Dr. Abemo, Registrar of Nagaland University, was the special guest at the opening ceremony. He lauded MDBA for extending social service in the form of providing a platform to the young aspiring players to exhibit and develop themselves.

He also asserted that sports are an important element in the development of an individual’s life and motivated the students by stating, “In sports your intention should be not only to win the championship but winning the hearts of the people around you should be your target.”

He further added the championship is an opportunity to build up one’s character and exhibit their talent.

“Participate with utmost sporting spirit and let your action and participation display your character,” he advised the participants.

Martoshi Jamir, MDBA president, in his welcome address, informed that the Mokokchung District Badminton Tournament is scheduled to be held in July adding that the selected players from the tournament would undergo intensive coaching to represent the district for inter-district tournament.
