Mokokchung, May 22 (EMN): The District Planning and Development Board Meeting for the month of May 2022 was held under the chairmanship of MLA Imkong L Imchen at the ADC (Planning) Conference Hall in Mokokchung on May 20.

The meeting was also attended by Tongpang Ozukum, minister and outgoing DPDB Chairman Mokokchung; Sharingain, Speaker NLA; Metsubo, minister; and Imnatiba, Advisor.

During the meeting, the house congratulated the outgoing chairman on his sincere towards the district during his tenure and also welcomed the new chairman.

Moreover, Shashank Pratap Singh, DC Mokokchung also expressed his gratitude for the privilege to serve Mokokchung as DPDB Vice Chairman, while soliciting the contribution and co-operation of all the departments and civil societies towards the development of the district.

Meanwhile, after thorough deliberation and discussion, the house approved the translated document of the village Councils Act Nagaland 1078 and decided to set up a special committee for further study of the translated (into Local dialect) documents.

 As proposed in the last meeting, “Livelihoods Project” under common pool 2021-2022 was re-examined and approved, the distribution and selection of the beneficiaries for which shall be done by the chairman and vice chairman.

Construction and development of Public Park at Mokokchung Town was also discussed, wherein the house informed on the possibility of land earmarked for the project basing on which the house decided to send a proposal to the government regarding fund allocation for the development of the said Park.

The construction of approach road widening and black topping from Senior Treasury Office junction to DC’s Office Complex was also approved. On the updates on construction of Mini Secretariat/District Office Complex in Mokokchung, the house discussed and unanimously agreed to alter the project into Multi-Departmental Office Complex, Mokokchung, while approving the project.

It also sanctioned the registration of the society of Town Higher Secondary School Mokokchung and enquired from the parent department of BSNL regarding poor network of the telecom service in the district, while expecting that the BSNL department would provide stable good service to the people.

As part of World Environment Day Celebration 2022, a declaration of plantation drive was conducted by Dr. Sentitula, DFO Mokokchung, wherein she informed that the department is prepared to distribute 50,000 plant saplings to 88 villages in the district, for which the house also made a pledge.

The installation programme for the office bearers of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) Mokokchung region, for the tenure 2021-2024, was held at JAV (Just A Venue) Mokokchung on May 21.

The installation programme was attended by Minister in-charge of NDPP Mokokchung region, Metsübo Jamir, Minister Tongpang Ozukum, NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer, Advisor Imnatiba Jamir and other central officials from NDPP rank and files.

Addressing the programme, Metsϋbo Jamir said, ‘NDPP was formed by us, and stretching its roots beyond is the responsibility of each party worker’. He also said that NDPP is a relatively new party founded in 2017, which has now increased its strength to 44 MLAs including associate members, surpassing NPF, the oldest regional party in the state.

He attributed this significant achievement to good leadership and strong grassroots in the party.

‘We should not be proud of what we have achieved, but rather thank those legislators and their colleagues, who have come to support our government. We should never forget the sacrifice they made to leave their party in order to support us’, he asserted.

The minister also argued that the aftermath of Covid-19 pandemic had extremely affected the national economy resulting in reduction of developmental funding from the centre leading to NDPP-led UDA government’s inability to perform.

Also speaking at the event, Sharingain Longkumer stated that the NDPP-led UDA government is a performance-based government and urged the party workers not to reason how others perform but to reason themselves, what they have contributed and how they have participated.

He challenged his comrades by saying, ‘As leaders, have hope in our party, give hope to our fellow brothers and sisters, and let us make hope for our people’.

Tongpang Ozukum stressed on Naga political issue and termed it as the biggest issue, stating that the current role played by the Parliamentary Committee on the matter as a facilitator for a solution is not a ‘joke’.

“The UDA government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio is very serious about this issue and all efforts are being poured into it”, he asserted, while urging the party workers to have accommodative spirit.

Imnatiba Jamir urged party workers to have a clear cut political ideology and crystal clear political direction. “We should not focus on money politics but focus on development and prosperity politics”, he encouraged the party workers.

Stating that the era of MLA recommendation system is gone, he informed that the digital era with transparency, accountability and direct beneficiary transfer has begun. In this connection, he urged the party to know and understand how the new system works and the various features and schemes in each and every department to efficiently help people in promoting progress.

Meanwhile, the new team will be led by N Bendang Jamir as the president, and Repameren as the general secretary. Many members were also inducted as officials in various posts under NDPP Mokokchung Region, NDPP Mokokchung Region Women Organisation, NDPP Mokokchung Region Youth Organisation and NDPP Mokokchung Region Agri and Allied Organisation.
