The circle level committee meeting on encroachment of forest land in progress at Marepkong in Mokokchung on Monday.

Mokokchung, June 22 (EMN): Mokokchung district has 4602.34 ha of purchased land; 9.02 ha of donated land and 420.36 ha of protected forest, the District Forest Officer (DFO) Dr. Sentilula informed on Monday.

She stated this while briefing the status of forestland in the district during the meeting of the circle level committee meeting on encroachment of forest land at Forest office at Marepkong ward, an update stated.

The chairman of the committee, Rongsenlemla, highlighted the government's notification and directives of the Supreme Court issued on November 23, 2001, for the constitution of forest circle level committee to check land encroachment from government forestland.

During the meeting, Vishal Chauhan, superintendent of police spoke on the importance of forest conservation and creative way of conserving land while Dharam Raj, SDO (c) shared on the importance of digitisation of forest areas. The house also discussed on various issues such as joint inspection of purchased forestland and committee meeting to be held in various sub-divisions.

The meeting was attended by Mokokchung RO Sashilemla, Changtongya BO Maomongba and RO Longtho Odibendang.
