Mokokchung district lift veteran football Trophy

Our Correspondent Mokokchung, April 17 Mokokchung lifted the 6th Inter District Veteran Football trophy after defeating its toughest rival Dimapur 2-0 in the final at Imkongmeren Sport Complex, Mokokchung on Friday. A stunning double score from Kapi John saw Mokokchung snatching the champions’ title from Dimapur. They walked away with a cash prize of Rs.30, 000 while the runner up Dimapur received Rs.20,000.At the blow of whistle, the bolder Mokokchung trap the opponent in their one touch strategy making the other side puzzled around their legs. The host team found the net in the 13th minute when Kapi John (Jersey-17) made an excellent shot which safely landed at perfect angle giving the host team an early lead. Pressurized by one goal lead, the Dimapur wrestled its muscle to equalize the goal but their boots could not reach the net of the opponent as the defense line became more mutants to their resistance. Yashienba (Jersey-2) of Mokokchung was awarded yellow but the dynamic Dimapur failed to turn the opportunity into a goal. Entering the second half, Kapi John (Jersey-17) of Mokokchung made no mistake in scoring the goal in 40 minutes also securing the highest goal scorer of the tournament. Dimapur, however, where not in a mood to give away their title and made endless effort but the shining boot of Lima (jersey-10) was unable to create the magic till the end of the match. Today morning, Tuensang beat Wokha 4-0 and secured the third place of the tournament. The first goal for Tuensang came in 21 minutes through the boots of Pelimong (Jersey-10). The second goal cami in after three minutes which was scored by C Bendang (Jersey-6). The second half saw Tuensang making another goal in 63 minute by Shinenvo (Jersey-12) and lastly Pelimong (Jersey-10) doubled his score in 72 minutes. The third place winner walked away with a cash prize of Rs.12, 000 while the fourth runner up Wokha received Rs. 8,000 Earlier, gracing the closing ceremony as the chief guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung said that life too short to spend in unproductive, unhealthy and wasteful activities and mentioned that “we have one life and we should make the best out of it.” The ADC also expressed her believe that during the course of the tourney they had nice time between fellow veterans to take back fond memories to cherish. She also said that though there will be only two winners in the tourney, they are all winner and heroes and urged the veterans to set an example to the younger generation with spirit of oneness.
