Mokokchung District Inter-Club Badminton Championship from Oct. 10

Mokokchung, Sep. 30 (EMN): The 4th Mokokchung District Inter-Club Badminton Championship organised by the Mokokchung District Badminton Association (MDBA) will begin from October 10 to the 12th at the Indoor Badminton Stadium in Mokokchung.

This was informed at a press conference called by the MDBA on Monday. Yanger Pongen, the Technical Committee Convener underscored that the inter-club championship is one of the important event under MDBA and one of the prestigious event for Nagaland Badminton Association too.

He further said that the championship is in tune with the MDBA mission statement to produce an Olympian by 2030 as well as the culmination event after a series of successful coaching camps and tournaments in its year-round calendar.

MDBA said that the association has put its mind and soul along with resources to the mission statement that year-round activities like coaching camp have been conducted for seven years and above.

Such activities have yield success among the up-coming talents in the district and it is realising it MDBA mission statement one step at a time, they said with pride.

The association has secured 40 percent of the titles in the recently concluded Nagaland Inter-District and State Open Badminton Championship 2019 held under the aegis of Nagaland Badminton Association at DSCZ Stadium in Zunheboto, they claimed.

MDBA official said that Inter-Club Badminton Champion is one of the mission statements to link the game to the grassroots level (rural) and promote the hidden innate talents in proper platforms and popularise the game of badminton.

In this year’s edition, there has been a huge increase in clubs participating in the championship compared to last year’s seven clubs participation where Shuttlers from Chuchuyimpang village clinched the championship.

The clubs included The Shuttlers’ Chuchuyimpang (Team A & B), L4 Impur, Native Shuttlers Association Mopungchuket (Team A & B), Badminton Association Khensa, Soyim Smashers Ungma (Team A & B) and Longsa Sporting Club, NU Lumami and DC Team.

The championships will be played on best of seven match format and the categories will be U-13 boys singles; U-15 girls singles; U-15 boys doubles; men’s singles; 35+ men’s doubles; veterans 95+ men’s doubles and mixed doubles open category.
