Mokokchung bans commercial sale of dog meat

Mokokchung, Sep. 19 (EMN): Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has banned import, trading and commercial sale of dogs in market and commercial sale of dog meat with immediate effect under its jurisdiction.

A notification from Shashank Pratap Singh, ADC and MMC administrator, stated that the ban was imposed in pursuance to the notification issued by the office of the chief secretary of Nagaland on July 4.

It warned that any person found violating the order would be liable to be punished under the relevant section of IPC 1960, Prevention of Cruelty Against Animal Act and any such provisions of law as may be applicable.
