Dimapur, April 9 (EMN): Modern College Kohima in collaboration with Assam Rifles Kohima held a painting competition on the theme “One India Great India” from 12 pm onwards in the college campus on April 8.
An update from the college informed that 268 students participated in the competition and the Assam Rifles presented the prizes to the winners.
Kelevizo of BA 2nd semester won the first prize, while Yangliba Sangtam of BA 6th sem. and Takanungba Pongen B.Voc. 4th sem. won the second prize.
Sentichuba and Wabungtemzen of BA 6th sem. and Akumnungsang of BA 4th sem. received the third prize, while consolation prizes were awarded to Vetso of BA 4th sem., Tepueyo Thuphre of BA 6th sem., and Ketholetuo Zhale of BA 6th sem.
A special award for “out of the box thinking” was given to Nokepe of BA 6th semester.
Unity College Dimapur
Commemorating World Health Day, the NSS/RRC cell of Unity College Dimapur organised a programme on the theme ‘‘Building a Fairer, Healthier World’’ on April 7.
In the introductory note, Thungbeni Humtsoe, assistant professor department of History, stressed on the need to meet today's challenges relating to awareness, taking preventive measures and sensitising the younger generation, who are more vulnerable to HIV/AIDS, an update informed.
The resource person, Orenthung Ngullie, supervisor DAPCU, emphasised on HIV/AIDS as a major issue affecting the world.
Explaining the causes and symptoms of the deadly virus, he emphasised on following and taking adequate preventive measures. He also presented a district-wise data of detected cases while expressing the importance for younger generation to have proper knowledge about HIV/AIDS to ensure health for all and to build resilience for tomorrow.
Kewithunbo Nchang of BA 4th semester chaired the programme while Mercy Rengma of BA 4th semester delivered the vote of thanks.
Sixty students and 10 faculty members attended the event, it added.
Adra India
The Adventist Development Relief Agency (Adra), India celebrated 'World Health Day' with the children of Bright Morning Star Children Home at Kohima on April 7.
A press release stated that the event was initiated as part of 'birds and bees talk' programme which aimed at spreading awareness and focus on adolescent health in the state.
It stated that a brief message on the theme “building fairer, healthier world” was delivered by the team member and creative session and experiential learning activities based on the theme were also conducted where the children showcased their creativity and talents.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates to all the part-takers, it added.
