Modern College students debate Naga political aspirations
DIMAPUR — With the objective of enhancing critical thinking, awareness, and public speaking skills of the students, the department of English and Debate Club of Modern College, Kohima, conducted a debate competition at the college premises.
The competition culminated with the final round of the debate competition on the topic ‘Nagas’ political aspirations for separate homeland is a myth’ on Saturday, according to a press release.
Losa from the B.A. fifth semester, English department, chaired the event, and Bideno A Humstoe, assistant professor of the English department, moderated the competition. Seyekhrienuo, Anthony, and Keleseno were the judges, while Atoto K Chishi and Rachael Thiumai were the timekeepers.
The opposing team won the debate competition, with Ricky Das of the B.A. third semester taking home the title of best debater. EAC Aitepyong P Pukha Lam and Sepoy, Indian Army, Longjakrep, sponsored the cash prizes.
Akash Chetri and his friends from the B.A. first semester presented a special song, and Vito Sema performed a dance. The event concluded with Ngipao delivering the vote of thanks.
The debate competition featured 39 students and was held in three rounds.
