Modern College B.Voc students complete one-month internship

Dimapur, Nov 8. (EMN): The 1st Semester (2nd batch) students of B.Voc in Retail Management & IT of Modern College has successfully completed one month internship which was held from October 3 to 31 as a part of the academic programme. Altogether 14 students were placed at various prominent stores and show rooms in town namely Gravity and E-Central under Tribal Group, Bambusa, Lozi Hyundai and Adidas.
YouthNet which is the educational partner assisted in building linkages with the stores. The new interns were initially given orientations on various aspect of the retail world, work ethics and discipline by respective human resource persons.
In the course of the programme, the interns were exposed to dealing with customers, cash handling, stock counting and visual merchandising.
Retail sector is becoming one of the most growing sector in the State as well as in India as a whole, resulting in employment opportunities. It is expected that the interns will now have a better career options with formal education and practical training through the course.
B.Voc course introduced by UGC is a full-fledged 3 year degree programme for 12th pass out students in any stream. The course is practical oriented as it involves 60% practical and 40% theoretical. All practical components will end with project report. Every semester passed out student will get a certificate from RASCI (Retailers Association Skill Council of India), Mumbai, which is recognised all over India and abroad.
Altogether there are 6 semesters. Students will study a particular job role at all levels during the course which starts from Sales Associate in 1st Semester and as Store Manager at the 6th Semester. On completion of the course, degree is awarded.
