Model Christian College celebrates cultural day
DIMAPUR — Model Christian College, Kohima, celebrated its annual cultural day on Saturday at the college auditorium, themed ‘Appreciating roots revitalising culture,’ with Dr. Theyiesinuo Keditsu, assistant professor at Kohima College, as the special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Keditsu said that clothing serves as both an identity and a narrative of one’s personal story and noted that dressing and attire could serve as a means to reconnect with elders, according to a press release.
She stressed the importance of fostering dialogues and conversations between tribes and communities, emphasising the beauty of a shared ancestry. She said that fashion has the potential to enrich one’s culture and tradition while also strengthening roots and revitalising cultural heritage.
The event featured folk songs, folk plays, traditional war dances, and more. The main attraction of the programme was a cultural exhibition showcasing textiles from various Naga tribes. This presentation included explanations of the motifs and patterns found in the different tribal garments.
