DIMAPUR Advisor of Industries and Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu, has launched the ‘Mobius Young Climate Leaders for Himalayan Development Project’ during a programme held at Lampstand School in Toluvi, Dimapur, on June 12.

The project is a joint collaboration of Climate Studies and Knowledge Solutions Centre under the department of Science and Technology and the department of Environment Forests and Climate Change with support from Nagaland Board of School Education and implemented by YouthNet.

An update from the department of Science and Technology stated that the project would impart the pani-pahar curriculum developed by Hearth Advisors and Cambridge University in 15 selected schools to raise awareness among children and help them understand the significance of their individual and collective climate action.

It informed that under the Mobius Young Professional Programme, selected 15 young forestry graduates would implement the curriculum and facilitate tree plantation, waste management and recycling jointly with schools, communities, and village councils supported by the government administration, Forest department and municipal councils. They would also contribute towards Nagaland government’s international research initiative launched at the COP 27 climate conference in Egypt last year.

Speaking at the launch event, Mhalo Humtsoe, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Dimapur, assured the administration’s support to the schools, communities and all village council chairmen present on the occasion.

Dr. Atoho Jakhalu, director of the Climate Centre, government of Nagaland, thanked the Mobius Foundation for funding the project and particularly to the chairman, Pradip Burman, for his visionary leadership and commitment towards environmental sustainability.

The event was attended by Dr. Ram Boohj, CEO of Mobius Foundation, and his team. The programme also marked the entry of Mobius Foundation into the ecologically sensitive northeast region of India. It added that the event was a significant milestone in the organisation's ongoing mission to create a positive environmental footprint across the country.
