Imphal, Oct. 3 (EMN): A large number of people including civil society bodies, womenfolk and students of Manipur on Thursday took to the streets to protest against the Centre’s move to implement the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has recently reiterated on revival of the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in the next session of Parliament.

The protest was held under the aegis of the Manipur People Against Citizenship Amendment Bill (MANPAC). to show their solidarity and support to the decision taken up by the central executive council of North East Forum for Indigenous People on September 25 in Kohima.

Holding playcards which read ‘No CAB in Northeast’ and ‘Withdraw CAB Unconditionally,’ the womenfolk particularly the vendors of Khwairamband Keithel staged protest by forming a human chain.
Similarly, students from various schools and universities in and around Imphal also staged similar protest by forming human chains.

Womenfolk also organised sit-in demonstration at many areas in the state.
Meanwhile, the Manipur People’s Party, one of the oldest regional political parties in the Northeast, has announced that it will continue to oppose the CAB in the region.
