Mmhunlumo inaugurates traditional Chumpo

Dimapur, Feb. 14 (EMN): Advisor of IT, Science and Technology, Mmhonlumo Kikon, inaugurated a traditional Chumpo and unveiled the plaque at Wokha village on February 13.

Speaking on the occasion as special guest, Kikon reminded that culture signifies one’s identity adding Chumpo is an integral part of every village which is the first and the biggest institution in the olden days. Inaugurating the Chumpo, Kikon quoted Armstrong who once said, “It is a small step for the village but a giant leap for the community”.

He also reminded the importance and significance of preserving one’s culture and tradition practiced by their forefathers. Kikon lauded the Wokha village people for identifying the old Chumpo site after archaeological excavation was carried out in the heart of the village and constructing a model resembling the old Chumpo.

The guest of honour and additional secretary, Nchumbemo Lotha, while supplementing the special guest, also stressed on the importance of preserving one’s culture and tradition. He added that one could learn and gain more knowledge of their culture and tradition through the newly constructed Chumpo.

The keynote address was delivered by Libemo Kithan, convenor of Heritage Committee, while short speeches were also delivered by MLA Dr. Chumben Murry, PDA member YM Humtsoe, and chairman of Wokha village council S Yanphamo Tungoe.

The dedication prayer was pronounced by Rev. O Thungben Kikon and Nchumbemo (Shipu) Erui and friends presented a dedication song. Eramo Yitssomo from B Khel narrated the significance and how the Chumpo was built by their forefathers.

The entourage was accompanied by Dr. Chumben Murry and a host of dignitaries also visited the village heritage site.
