DIMAPUR, AUGUST 14

APPRISING Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju about the situation in Uriamghat-Ralan Sector, MLA from Bhandari Assembly constituency Mmhonlumo Kikon has urged him to place the CRPF under the joint command of Nagaland and Assam Police so as to strengthen the hands of the neutral force in carrying out their duties with efficiency and neutrality.
Calling on the Union minister in his office at North Block in New Delhi today, Kikon stressed that placing the CRPF under the joint command will lead to better border policing and will also ensure that migrant workers respect the law of the land. The move will also be instrumental in deterring illegal migrants from settling in the border areas, he said in a release.
Since the CRPF is placed under the command of the Assam Police as the ADGP (border) Assam is officially overseeing them, it is difficult to swiftly address issue of law and order in the Disturbed Area Belt, the MLA told Rijiju.
Kikon also apprised the Union minister about the “biased” and “prejudiced” media reporting in Assam on the issue and requested him to take proper stock of the event as these false reports are only escalating the tensions which could otherwise have been easily resolved by the police of both the states.
“The Adivasis are consistently defying agreements after agreements between the two sides and inviting provocations in spite of the agreements,” he said and therefore requested the Home Ministry to send more forces to police the border under its direct supervision before the situation worsens.
Kkon said it was heartening to know that Rijiju who hails from Arunachal Pradesh has a realistic and first hand understanding of the border issue with Assam. He said the MOS (Home) already had a detailed report of the events at Ralan and added that the Home Ministry is keenly observing the situation.
