MMC to conduct yearly dog registration, vaccination drive

DIMAPUR — The ADC and chief executive officer of Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), Chumlamo Humtsoe has informed that the municipal council will be conducting the yearly dog registration-cum-vaccination drive for the year 2024-25 under Mokokchung town, on September 27 and the 28th.

According to a DIPR report, the vaccination drive will be carried out in collaboration with Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AHVS) and All Ward Union Mokokchung (AWUM).

Timing of registration/renewal cum-vaccination exercise will commence from 8 am onwards and all respective wards have been requested to arrange necessary facilities.

Each ward shall assign two persons to work with the team from AHVS department and respective ward chairman will sign the registration card for the renewal, as informed by the department.

“It has been noted that many pet owners are not using the tag properly. Hence, as dog identification is a very important issue, alternative measures for proper implementation of the same was planned from this year but due to some technical issues it could not be done.

“However, for new registration and lost card, it has been directed to collect the same from the office on or before 26th Sept, 2024,” it stated.

New registration, renewal, vaccination fees and utilisation charges will be as usual.

On September 27, the dog registration-cum-vaccination drive will be carried out at Salangtem, Alempang, Alongmen, Sangtemla, Tongdentsuyong, Arkong, Penli, Dilong and Sungkomen wards.

On September 28, the drive will be conducted at Yimyu, Lijabalijen, Mongsenbai, kumlong, Kichutip, Aongza, Marepkong, Majakong and Artang wards. For any queries, one can contact 9436007607.

In another notification, the MMC directed all dog owners within Mokokchung municipal jurisdiction to comply with the existing “Dog Registration and proper control of dogs’ rules and regulation 2017.”

The office also issued an advisory to be followed by the pet owners: Pet owners are advised to ensure that their pets are not a source of nuisance to others and also to make every effort to keep their dogs at home, particularly during night hours,

Pet owners have also been advised to ensure that their pets are healthy, and clean.

It further reminded that it is a cognisable offence under Section 428 and Section 429 of the IPC if a person kills another person’s dog or any other pet deliberately.
