Mokokchung, Oct. 10 (EMN):Mokokchng Municipal Council (MMC) has seized and disposed off five pigs, which were allegedly imported to Mokokchung in Kapayong sector of Mokokchung village on October 10.
MMC officials reported that the pigs were imported to Mokokchung without MMC import permit. The officials informed that the pigs were cleverly transported by-passing the check-gate via feeder roads to reach Mokokchung.
However, MMC after getting wind of the imported pigs reached the spot at around 9 am and confiscated the pigs.
MMC officials also informed that two of the pigs were already slaughtered when it reached the spot. Subsequently, the MMC immediately disinfected the whole meat to prevent from consuming.
Later in the evening, all the pigs were disposed off following proper disinfectant procedure in the presence of MMC officials.
The officials also informed that the permit security of the perpetrators were seized and penalised with a fine of INR 10,000. Following the incident, two permits of pork stall bearing no. 07 and 1791 has been ordered to shut-down for one month with immediate effect, they added.
MMC inspector Talimar Longkumer disclosed that ban on import of pigs due to the occurrence of swine fever disease in the neighbouring state of Assam especially in the bordering districts by the chief animal husbandry and veterinary officer, Mokokchung, since April is still in force in the district.
