MMC disposes illegally imported pigs

Mokokchung, Oct. 14 (EMN):
Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) seized and disposed off illegally imported pigs from Assam on Wednesday.

According to MMC, the pigs were seized on October 9 and also launched a thorough investigation. It was informed that a pig was already slaughtered before MMC officials reached the spot. It stated that immediate remedies were taken to disinfect the meat from consumption.

During investigation, it was revealed that a total of six pigs were smuggled into Mokokchung on October 6 by one Tajenkaba of Aliba village, currently residing in Kichutip ward in Mokokchung town. The pigs were brought and exchanged at Alongtaki area under Mangkolemba sub-division, they added.

The officials further informed that a pig was slaughtered and sold half-way before reaching Mokokchung and upon reaching Mokokchung, the pigs were kept at Anangmen sector under Mokokchung village and sold another pig on October 8.

The remaining pigs were later slaughtered and disposed-off by MMC workers following disinfectant procedure today (October 14). MMC also added that the perpetrator was penalised with a fine of INR 10,000.
