Dimapur, Jan. 5 (EMN): The president of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) K Therie on Thursday claimed that the 60 members of legislative assembly were responsible for the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO)’s Frontier Nagaland statehood demand.

Speaking at a press conference held at Congress Bhavan, Dimapur, he stated the eastern Nagaland MLAs and senior leaders were equally responsible for the failure to uplift the area.

Stating the grievances of the ENPO were genuine, he said the “attitude of Nagaland government” led to the demand for separate state

“GOI should not think of dividing Nagaland but the grievances should be addressed in a proper manner,” he said.

While appealing to the ENPO to reconsider their demand, he also requested the government of India not to think of dividing Nagaland but rather address the grievances faced by the people in eastern Nagaland and deliver justice and equality to the area.

Right time for Nagaland CM, UDA government to resign

Therie opined that now is the time for the chief minister and UDA government to submit their resignation, if they ‘truly want to resolve the political problem’.

“If there is any sincerity on the part of the UDA government, they should submit their resignations to the Union Home Minister and ask him to implement the political solution because there is nothing more,” he said.

Further, he stated that if the BJP is honest, ‘it should stand by its own commitment where the Prime Minister had stated that political issue had been resolved, so the party in the state should demand implementation of a political solution’.

He opined that this time, the people should demand president’s rule, defer the election and only implement the political solution.

Therie alleged that Neiphiu Rio and General Secretary of NSCN (IM)  did not want a political solution.

“Government of India knows very well that they do not want a solution, so if we are to wait for them to say yes to the solution, there will be no solution,” he stated.
