Dimapur, April 8
The state of Nagaland, with its reputation for being a community ravaged by extortion, corruption and general socio-economic degeneration, is also suffering due to “excess employment” in her biggest employing sector – the government. This malady can be addressed only if the people start cultivating dignity of labour and change their mindset that government jobs are not the only jobs through which one can make a living, a legislator has stated.
Parliamentary Secretary for Irrigation and Flood Control, Jacob Zhimomi was speaking during the inauguration of a panchayat hall for Sodzulhou village, under Dimapur, on Friday.
Speaking during the inaugural ceremony, Zhimomi pointed out that Nagaland was “suffering due to excess employment” and due to which the government has had to “dish out maximum of state’s exchequer to pay the salary of government employees.”
Stating that a time has come for the people to stop being dependent on government jobs alone. The politician said that there were ‘lots more avenues and opportunities away from government jobs’ through which people could earn a livelihood and through skill-based enterprises.
Zhimomi has urged the people to develop work culture and also to teach the younger generations dignity of labour. There can be no success without hard work, he said. Nonetheless, he added to it, the government has also created a new department to help people hone their skills.
Development and progress of a village also largely depends on its people, Jacob maintained adding that that people should work together in unity for the greater interest of the village as whole. Spelling out his concern for the public, the politician also gave his assurance that he would continue to do his best for the uplift of the people.
