DIMAPUR — Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Benei M Lamthiu attended the 63rd general session of the Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) on Friday at Sanglao village, Noklak district.
Speaking on the sub-theme ‘Roots and new horizons,’ the MLA delivered a stirring challenge to the student delegates, urging them to transform the Khiamniungan community through the power of education, a DIPR report stated.
Drawing inspiration from the idea that ‘Education is the passport to the future,’ Lamthiu encouraged students to master modern education to keep pace with the fast-evolving world.
He specifically challenged the student body to strive for excellence in competitive arenas, expressing his vision to see a higher representation of the Khiamniungan people among the state’s gazetted officers.
While pushing for modernisation, he reminded the youth that their identity is their greatest strength. He urged them to never lose sight of their roots — the rich traditions and heritage passed down through generations.

“Cope up with the modern lifestyle, yet never forget the traditions that define who you are,” he emphasised.
Addressing the mindset of the youth, the MLA dismissed the idea of relying on “luck or chances.” Instead, he pinpointed three essential tools for success — willpower, determination, and hard work.
“For the hardworking, there is plenty and enough,” he remarked, reminding the delegates that these tools are the only reliable way to achieve their personal and collective goals.
The event included keynote address by the speaker of assembly affairs, KSU.
A folk fusion from the Choklangan Students' Union added vibrant colour and voice to the programme. Short speeches were delivered by the president of Khiamniungan Cultural Club, Noklak, and general secretary of the Khiamniungan Gazetted Officers' Association.
