
Achumbemo Kikon, accompanied by various officials, during a
visit to the Merapani Seed Farm on Wednesday.
- KOHIMA — Member
of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Achumbemo Kikon visited the state
government-owned Merapani Seed Farm on Wednesday to assess the ongoing
situation arising from the protest by the labourers and immigrants who have
started claiming the seed farm.
- According to an update, the MLA was accompanied by the
LLRPO, LLRSU, 7th NAP officers, and police, as well as the border magistrate.
- MLA Kikon made it clear and asserted that the Merapani Seed
Farm, measuring 1,300 acres, belongs to the Nagaland government and that the
illegal immigrants from Assam and the tenants have no right whatsoever to claim
even an inch of the seed farm.

- The MLA demanded that the Department of Agriculture
immediately cancel the permit/lease issued to both locals and non-locals and
reclaim the entire farm, converting it into a rice bowl for the state.
- Furthermore, Kikon also urged the department to fence the
entire stretch of the Merapani Seed Farm to protect it from illegal
encroachers.
