Imphal, June 5 (EMN): The Maram Students’ Union (MKS) following the existing protocols observed World Environment Day on Saturday at Mystic Lizai Lake premises, located about 12 km away from Senapati district headquarters.
The programme was held in collaboration with Senapati Forest Division, Government of Manipur (CAMPA) under the theme--”Reimagine, Recreate, Restore”.
This environmental event is the 13th annual initiative of MKS GO-GREEN campaign since 2009 that carry out tree plantations along roadsides, school premises, public places, sinking zones, district hqs. area and barren lands to create awareness through local action the inevitability of going - green among the local populace.
Though most of the planted trees in the past years are growing well, those planted especially along road sides are found to be damaged with the expansion of roads and other developmental activities.
It may be mentioned that MKS addresses environmental concerns among the local populace, as it believes its action in this corner of the world can generate mass and thus help to mitigate global warming.
Meanwhile, the state level World Environment Day was observed at Imphal, in the presence of minister of Forest and Environment, Awangbow Newmai and other officials of the directorate of Environment and Climate Change.
